The hills are alive, with the sound of runners a-huffin' and a-puffin'. Over one hundred souls braved the torture of the 2016 'Combe Crawler' - the multi-terrain race that's guaranteed to bring you to your knees! First man in was S Molton Strugglers' Paul Cooke who completed the tortuous course in 01:00:53. First lady was IRC's own Mary Menon, who took the female title for the second year in a row, finishing fifth overall in 01:04:42.
There was more joy for IRC when they took the team prize - joining Mary in the top running collective were Kevin Reed (01:03:01), Joe Mackenzie (01:05:30) and Tim Reed (01:09:05). Kevin won joint third male overall, Joe Mackenzie was top senior male, Becky Williamson (pictured above smiling a little too brightly) top vet 35 female and Pete Westmacott top vet 70 male.
Despite disgusting weather the previous day, this notoriously challenging course remained surprisingly runnable, and just over one hundred plodders came home with both their knees and lungs intact. Another fantastic race well organised by race director Dan Hunter and volunteer co-ordinator Kate Romo. We'd like to especially thank all our awesome sponsors and fantastic marshalls for making this event such a memorable triumph for its second year. See you all in 2017!
